judge asks Portus founder to return from Israel to
answer questions by David
Paddon TORONTO (CP) - In a search for
missing millions, an Ontario judge has asked the
former lawyers of Boaz Manor, a central
figure in the defunct Portus group of investment
funds, to relay a request for him to return from
Israel to be questioned about his
business. "And if he isn't (coming back), we'll take
things to the next step," Justice Colin
Campbell said at an Ontario Superior Court
hearing Friday, without indicating what the next
step might be.

be to send lawyers to Israel to interview Manor
there, although lawyers for the court-appointed
receiver argued that Manor should return at his
own expense by next week. Manor co-founded Portus three years ago and
quickly turned it into one of the country's
fastest-growing hedge funds with 26,000 clients
before it shut down, leaving investors and
authorities uncertain about
the whereabouts of their money. The firm collected an estimated $750 million
from investors until February, when securities
regulators in Ontario and Canadian jurisdictions
ordered the company to stop opening new accounts or
taking in new money [...] -
