On 22 May 45 at 1700 hrs
three Germans in civilian clothes were arrested by
troops of an FSP manning a bridge control at
Bremervörde. They possessed certificates of discharge
from the army. Early on 23 May a party of
eleven suspects including the above were transported
from Westertimke Internment Camp to 031. Among this party
were three - the same three as above? - alleged members of
the GFP whose story appeared contradictory and were
suspected of belonging to the SD. At about 1700 hrs on 23
May one of the three asked to see the Camp Commandant and
stated that he was Heinrich Himmler and that the other two
were members of his personal staff. Himmler had arrived under the
false name of HIZINGER
[sic]
though his two companions had not changes their names. His
clothes were completely changed in 031 and as 1125 on 23rd
he was taken by car by Col Murphy to a house in LUNEBURG
& subjected to medical examination. While teeth were
being examined he bit a phial of cyanide of potassium and
died within 25 mins. [Pencil:]

They possessed certification of discharge from the
Army. Early on 23 May a party of CI suspects
include the above were transferred from WESTERTIMKE
Internment Camp to Camp 031. Among the party were
three alleged members of the Geheime Polizei whose
story appeared contradictory, suspected of
belonging to the SICHERHEITSDIENST. Approx 231900
hrs one of the party asked to see the Camp Comdt,
stated that he was HEINRICH HIMMLER and that the
other two were members of his personal staff.
Details of HIMMLER as supplied by SHAEF were
immediately taken to the Camp from Second Army by
C(Int) reps. At 232045 hrs it was established
beyond doubt by Majors RANDELL and RICE GSI(B) that
the man was HIMMLER. His Party number, SS number,
signature together with his conversation and the
identical resemblance to recent photographs put
this beyond question. Has arrived under false name
HIZINGER
[sic]
though his two companions had not changed names. At
232215 he was taken by car by Col Murphy to a house
in LUNEBERG and was subjected to medical
examination. Clothes had been completely replaced
at 031. After examining trunk and limbs MO
proceeded to examine HIMMLER'S mouth. He noticed
blue tip of object concealed in Himmler's teeth. At
the same moment HIMMLER bit the object and
collapsed. Efforts lasting 5 minutes failed restore
life. Object in HIMMLER'S mouth was small glass
phial containing cyanide of Potassium and was
broken by HIMMLER, at 232305B. |
