Einreiseverbot für Rassist Irving gelöscht

Berlin - Das Auswärtige Amt in Berlin hat durch ein peinliches Versehen dem britischen Holocaustleugner David Irving mitgeteilt, dass "kein Einreiseverbot in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland" mehr bestehe.

Translation and comment Foreign ministry to Mr Irving Partial translation, opening paragraphs: THE Foreign Ministry in Berlin has informed Holocaust denier David Irving, through an embarrassing oversight, that there is no longer any ban on his entering the Federal Republic of Germany. In a cordially phrased letter dated Oct 8, 2003 he was informed, "The entry ban has been annulled."    The court-designated anti-Semite and racist celebrated what he regarded as a victory over German Justice on his website with the Goebbels quote, 'Now, Storm Unleash!' It meant, in his view, that there was no longer any ban on his speaking either.    Upon the inquiry of the Berliner Morgenpost at the Foreign Ministry and the Federal Central Aliens Registry a feverish activity began.[...]    The manageress of the Aliens Office in Munich, Gabriele Ponnath, conceded that the Nov 11, 1993 file on the immediate expulsion of Mr Irving had been accidentally wiped in the Central Aliens Registry, but the entry ban issued at the same time had never been annulled. It was not intended to allow Mr Irving to enter the Federal Republic again, the agency stated. [etc]. David Irving comments: IT is an illegal ban under European law, and it violates the Human Rights Convention of the United Nations too; fortunately, foreign policy in Germany is still the province of the Foreign Ministry, and not of the Berlin newspaper world -- the journaille, as Goebbels used to describe them.    Even so, I may now have to fight in the courts again if I take the Foreign Ministry at its word and respond to the many invitations I have received to visit Germany.    It is amazing, the lengths to which the traditional enemies of the truth go in order to silence one voice.    Note, incidentally, that the story seems to have evolved even as the Morgenpost -- a Springer newspaper -- went to press. Negating the burden of its own story, the headline still trumpets: ENTRY BAN ON IRVING QUASHED.    As a "court-designated anti-Semite" -- i.e. not a real one -- I am sure nobody at the Morgenpost will take it amiss if I remind my readers that every journalist on the Springer newspapers is required to sign a six- point undertaking that they will print only the truth, and that they will print nothing adverse to the interests to the State of Israel -- two undertakings which must at times seem hard to reconcile.

In einem auf den 8. Oktober 2003 datierten Brief wird mit freundlichen Grüßen mitgeteilt, "die Einreisesperre wurde gelöscht". Der gerichtlich bestätigte Antisemit und Rassist feierte den vermeintlichen Erfolg über die deutsche Justiz auf seiner Webseite im Internet mit dem Goebbels-Zitat "Nun Sturm brich los". Demnach, so heißt es dort, bestehe nun auch nicht mehr Redeverbot.

Auf Nachfrage der Berliner Morgenpost setzte im Auswärtigen Amt ebenso wie im Ausländerzentralregister des Bundesverwaltungsamtes und bei der Ausländerbehörde München hektische Betriebsamkeit ein.

In einer Anfrage an die deutsche Botschaft in London hatte Irving am 14. April 2003 Auskunft erbeten, ob das seit zehn Jahren gegen ihn bestehende Einreiseverbot weiterhin Bestand habe. Das Auswärtige Amt erfuhr auf die Routineanfrage beim Ausländerzentralregister des Bundesverwaltungsamtes, dass die Einreisesperre dort gelöscht worden sei.

Die Leiterin der Stabsstelle der Ausländerbehörde München, Gabriele Ponnath, räumte ein, dass die Dokumentation der am 11. November 1993 in München verfügten unbefristeten Ausweisung Irvings im Ausländerzentralregister "versehentlich gelöscht" wurde. Das zum selben Zeitpunkt ergangene Einreiseverbot sei jedoch nie aufgehoben worden.

Auf keinen Fall sei beabsichtigt gewesen, "Herrn Irving wieder in die Bundesrepublik Deutschland einreisen zu lassen", hieß es aus der Behörde. Entsprechend sei der "Fehler" umgehend berichtigt und sowohl das Münchener, als auch das Zentralregister "aktualisiert" worden. "So etwas wird mit Sicherheit nicht mehr passieren", sagte Ponnath. Unterdessen teilte das Auswärtige Amt mit, dass die Einreisesperre für Irving entgegen der Auskunft vom 8. Oktober weiter bestehe. Irving werde umgehend davon unterrichtet.

Der Holocaustleugner David Irving war 2001 der "systematischen Verharmlosung von Nazi-Verbrechen" wie der "Fälschung von Fakten" überführt worden. Nachdem er auch das Berufungsverfahren im Juli 2001 verloren hatte, wurde er im März 2002 offiziell für bankrott erklärt, da er die Prozesskosten in Höhe von drei Millionen Euro nicht bezahlen konnte.
