Privacy notice

Your data, plainly explained.

You can read and search the FPP archive without creating an account. We collect only the information needed to operate the site, protect it and provide services you request.

Browsing, security and analytics

Like most websites, FPP and its hosting or security providers process technical request data such as an IP address, browser type, requested URL, time and response status. This is used to deliver the site, diagnose faults, prevent abuse and maintain security.

On the public site we use a self-hosted Umami service to understand aggregate visits, site performance and interactions such as an advert click. Umami runs without analytics cookies on FPP and helps us improve the archive without building advertising profiles.

If you choose “Allow analytics”, we also load Google Analytics using the measurement property previously used by FPP. It records page views and selected interactions, including when an FPP advert leads to Irving Books. Google may process technical identifiers and set analytics cookies after consent. We keep Google advertising storage, ad-user-data and personalised-advertising consent disabled on FPP. You can change or withdraw this choice at any time through “Analytics preferences” in the footer.

03

Newsletter subscriptions

When you subscribe, FPP sends your email address to its mailing-list system, Listmonk. The system stores the address and subscription state so it can send a confirmation request and, after you confirm, occasional FPP emails. The newsletter uses double opt-in.

The subscription endpoint also uses your IP address in a short-lived rate-limit record to prevent automated abuse. That record expires after approximately one hour. The mailing-list record is retained until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, except for the minimum information needed to honour an opt-out.

We do not sell the mailing list. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe route. You can also request removal by emailing [email protected].

04

Comments and moderation

When you submit a comment, FPP stores the name or display name and comment text you provide so an editor can review it. FPP does not ask for an email address or create a reader account for this service.

If a comment is approved, its name, text and publication date become public on the relevant archive record. Pending, rejected and spam submissions are not public. Publication is not guaranteed, and editors may decline or remove comments that are irrelevant, abusive, unlawful, promotional or disclose personal information.

The submission endpoint uses a one-way, pseudonymous version of your IP address in short-lived rate-limit records to prevent automated abuse. The raw address is not stored in the comment record. Ordinary hosting and security logs may still process technical request data as described above. You may ask for a comment to be removed by emailing [email protected] with the page URL and displayed name.

05

Information stored on your device

The audio reader can store chapter and playback position in your browser's local storage so you can resume. FPP also stores your optional analytics preference in local storage. This information can be removed by clearing site data in your browser.

FPP does not require a reader account. Essential delivery or security providers may use short-lived technical identifiers when needed to protect the service, but FPP does not use them for advertising.

06

Sharing, legal basis and retention

Information is shared only with service providers needed to host, secure, measure or deliver the site and newsletter, or where disclosure is required by law. Providers are expected to handle it only for those operational purposes.

Where privacy law requires a legal basis, FPP relies on your consent for subscribed email and optional Google Analytics, your request and its legitimate interests for comment moderation, its legitimate interests in operating, protecting and measuring the archive with Umami, and legal obligations where applicable. Comment submissions and moderation decisions, including pending, rejected and spam records, are retained as part of FPP's editorial record; there is currently no automatic deletion period. Technical logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for security, diagnosis and operations. A valid deletion request may still apply as described below.

07

Donations and other websites

Links to Donate FPP, Irving Books, Irving Collection, Irving Video, Irving Studio, Ask Winston and social platforms lead to separate services. They receive the normal technical information involved in visiting a website and may apply their own privacy notices. Payment information is not collected by this archive website.

08

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may ask to access, correct or delete personal information, object to or restrict certain processing, or withdraw consent. Withdrawing newsletter or analytics consent does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal.

If you receive the newsletter, the quickest option is its unsubscribe link. For any other request, contact FPP using the details below. We may need enough information to verify the request before acting.

09

Questions or complaints

Email [email protected] with “Privacy request” in the subject line. If a concern is not resolved, you may also have the right to complain to the data-protection authority where you live.

This notice may change when FPP adds a service or changes a provider. The revision date at the top will be updated when the notice changes materially.
