Readers’ Christopher M Palmer of Aldershot, England, says, , that nobody knew the Jewish cemeterary there existed — except of course, the Jews themselves. Who knew of the Aldershot Jewish cemetery? I HAVE been researching the events of the past few months with regard to the desecrations of the Jewish Cemetery in Reden Road, Aldershot , and I am amazed at the amount of internet traffic that this has created.
I live in the town of Aldershot, Hampshire, and have done so for nearly three years now, since August 2002. In the three years that I have lived here, I never even knew this cemetery existed, yet it exists about one kilometer from my present address.
Now in the past few years, there’s been no trouble with this Jewish Cemetery, although there’s been trouble with the adjourning Municipal Cemetery of which this cemetery is part of, with some desecrations of some children’s graves and a few desecrations of adult graves. I can however confirm that there has been the desecrations of these Jewish graves on at least two separate occasions, no-one has been caught in connection with any of this.
I have a few facts that may help in this current situation. 1. Neo-Nazi activity in Aldershot is non-existent, there are no news reports of people being beaten up because they are Black or Asian, which is strange for a town with a Jewish cemetery that’s attacked on a regular basis! 2. The cemetery itself is not sign-posted, in fact, the entire Municipal cemetery is not even sign-posted! 3.
The cemetery itself although quite large, you will see it on the right hand side of the road, as you head north on Redan Rd from the roundabout connecting Holly Rd, Windmill Rd, and Redan Rd. Again there is NO SIGN POST TO EITHER CEMETERY ! Neither is there a signpost to the cemetery from the roundabout from North Lane, the northern part of the cemetery, and closest to the Military land which is nearby. 4.
There are high walls surrounding the Jewish Cemetery, even the news reports states that! “It would be difficult for Aldersho, because how can we stop people from jumping over that wall?” said Mr Hartog .
I must point out that I find the attacks on the graves both on those in the Jewish Cemetery and the Municipal Cemetery, in very bad taste, but I hope that these facts may in some hope help in establishing some facts here Christopher M Palmer Up to their old tricks Jewish graves desecrated at Aldershot , Hampshire (UK) (“and so close to Global Holocaust Day”) Brian G.
