A correspondentwrites from the
United States,

Mr. Irving,

I just wanted to say that I have read and enjoyed four of your books. I unfortunately missed an opportunity to see you lecture at UC
Berkely in 1994
. I did, however, hear that some thugs disrupted your meeting.

Several of my history professors felt the need to discredit you in their lectures. I personally have found no problem with your conclusions or research. I must say that
I am perplexed by the the media’s depiction of you as a
Nazi. I felt, in your books, that you had no particular love for
Hitler
or the Nazis but simply wrote an unbiased view of events. I particularly enjoyed
Churchill’s
War.

I thank you for having the courage to write the truth about such a malevolent character. It absolutely infuriates me when I watch a program or read a book about the “Blitz” because inevitibly the truth is disgarded. The most common misconception is that the Luftwaffe bombed London first. Of course the truth is that Churchill ordered the bombing of
Berlin first knowing that Hitler would retaliate.

I am looking forward to the second volume of Churchill’s War and hope that you keep writing.

An American Fan
