Sir,
B ILL McIntyre of the Anti-Nazi League (Letters, Oct.6) is horrified that Brentwood School invited me to speak on Dr Goebbels, the subject of my recent biography.

The school has a fine liberal tradition, as I know having been a pupil there myself for twelve years. I spoke to sixth formers there twice a year for twenty years until 1992, when certain groups began threatening violence if the invitations were not withdrawn.

The school now has a new headmaster who will not tolerate bigotry in any form; and more power to his elbow, say I.
