Mark Alinsky spots another error made by artist Olère; Eagle-breasted: wrong I NOTICED a small detail in one of the Olère sketches which I though you might find interesting. The SS soldier drawn by Olère has a breast eagle on his tunic. This is an inaccuracy; SS soldiers never had breast eagles sewn on their tunic, only the Wehrmacht’s troops did.
Each Feldgrau SS uniform had a special SS eagle sewn on the sleeve which was slightly different from the one in the sketch (Olère drew the Heer version of the National Socialist eagle.) Perhaps this is nitpicking, but I would venture to guess anyone who was a prisoner of a German concentration camp probably would not forget such a significant detail about the SS men’s uniforms.
