Focal Point Publications has always specialised in a high quality of production: the books are uniformly praised for their appearance — envious of its 64 pages of colour and black-and-white photographs Tina Rosenberg of The New York Times called the Goebbels biography MASTERMIND OF THE THIRD REICH a “Rolls-Royce of a book”.
Raising money for the capital-intensive task of manufacturing the books, which is done at England’s finest book printers (there are only three or four capable of doing the job) FPP initially paid Mr Irving’s friends and supporters attractive quarterly rates of interest. The rates were high, but the figures allowed it. On financial advice, the business side of the operation was taken over by Parforce UK Ltd, a company incorporated in 1994.
As FPP now embarks on a program of reprinting most of his thirty famous works and books by other authors too, the need for capital is renewed. The popular book NUREMBERG, THE LAST BATTLE was reprinted in 1999; followed by a new edition of the famous APOCALYPSE 1945: THE DESTRUCTION OF DRESDEN . Among others, a new edition of TRAIL OF THE FOX , the award-winning biography of Field-Marshal Rommel, will follow.
FPP intends to replace some of the older high-rate loans with arrangements better tailored to the rates now prevailing, to put the operation on a sounder long-term basis.
