Farber has been named Acting Executive Director of Canadian Jewish Congress (CJC), Ontario Region, it was announced today by Regional Chair Moshe Ronen . He replaces Manuel Prutschi, who resigned to take the position of Executive Vice- President of the Sephardic Educational Foundation and the Sephardic Kehila Centre in Toronto, and the World Sephardic Educational Centre in Jerusalem. He will be based in Toronto.
The Ontario Region of CJC (the largest in the country) represents the approximately 190,000 Jews in the province to fellow Ontarians and to government. It acts as a vehicle for advocacy on a broad range of public policy and social justice issues. Mr. Ronen, in welcoming Mr. Farber to his new position, said that he and the Regional Officers and Executive are looking forward “to benefiting from Bernie’s expertise in human rights, anti-racism, and interfaith and inter-cultural dialogue.”
Born in Ottawa, Mr. Farber, 46, came to work in the Toronto office of CJC in 1984. During his time at Congress, he has established an international reputation for his expertise on hate groups and “hate in cyberspace”, Holocaust denial, and Nazi war criminals.
