] suggests one reason why the Iraqi
guerrilla resistance is now flaring up against
the US occupation troops. Seems like only
yesterday that the American government was
muttering sanctimonious protests at the display
of captured US troops on Iraqi news bulletins. I
don't remember the Iraqis putting hoods over the
heads of their prisoners, or manacles on their
wrists. I do recall that there was a major
diplomatic crisis in October 1942 which lasted
for many months, when British Commandos put
their captured German prisoners in manacles. It
ended with a British apology, through the Swiss
Protecting Power, if my memory serves me
right.
