Hey folks,

Don't expect any postings today. There are people at the place where I work who are concerned that this site is a "partisan political activity" forbidden to employees such as me. I should hopefully know very soon whether I'll be allowed to continue my daily commentary on current events. In the meantime, thanks for reading, and check back for a) further announcements or b) a continuation of the site. posted by [name withheld] at 7:11 AM

A little more news:

It's still up in the air whether I'll be allowed to continue here, but chances look rather slim. The reason now given is that this site might "detract from the dignity" of the, er, unnamed people who are in charge of the unspecified place where I work.

Even if I have to shut down, it will only be temporary. My job lasts another 9 months or so, and then I will presumably be free to continue. And hey, I've had a lot of fun, and even got to have lunch with Michael Barone of U.S. News & World Report earlier this week (he found my site through Glenn Reynolds's incomparable Instapundit site).

Much thanks to all of you who have written kind letters of support (or letters upset on my behalf, as the case may be). Stay tuned for some final announcement one way or the other. posted by [name withheld] at 12:24 PM

OK -- It's final. I have been ordered to take down all the postings from this site for the duration of my current job (another 9 months or so). The fear is that many of my postings may concern "contentious public issues."

As Arnold Schwarzenegger once said, though, "I'll be back."

Til then.
