John Taylor has been archivist at the Modern Military Records Division of the National Archives as long as any historian can remember. Photographed on Thursday, June 24, 2004 in the Finding Aid room at the new Archives II building at College Green, Maryland, USA, Taylor, now 83, arrives every morning for work at six a.m. He is the walking, working, brain and card-index of the archives.
