Who are our speakers this year? Regular featured speaker Don Bustion "Unravelling Mysteries Using the Archives: The Case of Dugout Doug and the 500,000 Clams." Lawyer Don Bustion is to talk on using archives for popular research -- giving as his example how he tracked the mysterious payments made by the Philippine Government to General Douglas MacArthur in 1942: Don has found the contract which MacArthur signed in 1934 giving him a fee "not less" than 48 percent of the expenditures of the Philippines from 1935 to 1946, plus certain bonuses. Authors John Costello and John Toland both missed this item in their books when reporting mysterious transfers to the general's account. |
