David Buckden asks on Monday, January 19, 2004 whether Mr Irving will write an autobiography
Now what about an autobiography. . .
THANK you - I have enjoyed your writing for a quarter of a century, beginning with Hitler's War, soon after its first publication. I find your interpretation of events and personalities as fascinating as WWII itself.
I imagine that your research and the saga of your detractors' efforts to deny anything other than the old 'black & white' view of the War, is pretty interesting in its own right, so I'm wondering if you have any plans to write an autobiography?

David Irving replies:
THANKS for wondering. When Macmillan UK Ltd published my books, in 1987 my editor Adam Sisman asked me to write an autobiography, and I said I would leave it until later.
In fact I had already begun drafting it in about 1947, and I continued to update it as the years passed. Sadly, when my home was seized by the British Government trustee in May 2002, with all my papers, the file containing this biography was lost or destroyed through the negligence of the Trustee, Louise Brittain of Baker Tilly Ltd.
However, among my ancestors is Robert the Bruce (who was Scottish rather than the Australian his name would suggest); and the British know what to expect from one of his descendants.
