David
Irving
through the eyes of
the cartoonist
IN April 1977 Hodder
& Stoughton published the first UK edition
of David Irving's biography, Hitler's
War. It immediately went into The Sunday
Times best-seller list. Some newspapers did
not like it, and The Guardian published
an unfavourable review, illustrated by the above
caricature by well-known cartoonist David
Smith. Mr Irving bought the original of this
caricature, and the rights, from the artist, and
has used a detail of it as his icon ever
since.
