G.R.G.G. 214(C) The following conversation took place between: GenMaj von Wülfingen, Information received on 20-23 Oct 44 TRESCKOW: HIMMLER has one great short-coming, and that is that he has not the slightest faith in the German people.[*] WUELFINGEN: But he has one advantage: he is the only man about whom you don't hear anything bad. WAHLE: He has a clean record, yes. That's obvious, that's true. WUELFINGEN: He neither lived. in luxury, nor in great style, shall we say WAHLE: HIMMLER is also the person who, let's say, was the most favourably inclined towards our set. Those people who actually participated were never badly treated. TRESCKOW: I am convinced that when his time comes HIMMLER will -- SEYFFARDT: Become a Communist? TRESCKOW: He will kill off all those from our circles, our Army circles, whom he has left alone up till now. WAHLE: Not according to the opinions of those who know him. SEYFFARDT: LUDWIG once said that he had told him to his face one evening that he was a "black bastard" but HIMMLER only laughed. The son told me the story. But Ludwig's wife said he was a very charming, pleasant person, and it was not true to say that he was a murderer. TRESCKOW: Now, OLDENKOPF(?), whom I know very well, the son of Admiral OLDENKOPF(?), who is a member of the Party, but who represents our point of view entirely, said that he had been together with HIMMLER a great deal, and he says that he takes him to be genuinely -- SEYFFARDT: The FÜHRER's HQ swears by HIMMLER, too. WUELFINGEN: I consider him entirely above board. I discussed so many questions with him, I think he is quite straight TRESCKOW: Yes, HIMMLER must know all the dirty business in his racket.
GERMAN TEXT (WILL BE COMPLETED SHORTLY) [Der Himmler hat den einen Fehler, daß er im deutschen Volk nicht das geringste Vertrauen hat.' ‚Aber er hat einen Vorteil, daß er der eingize Mann ist, von dem man nichts schlechtes hören kann... weder hat er in Luxus gemacht, noch in übertriebener Form, wollen wir mal sagen.' Himmler ist auch der, der, wollen wir mal sagen, unseren Kreisen gegenüber der entgegenkommendste war. Die Leute, die positiv mitgemacht haben, hat er nie schlecht behandelt.' Ich bin bei Himmler überzeugt, daß er, wenn sein Augenblick gekommen ist, -- .. alles aus unseren Kreisen, Wehrkreisen, über die Klinge springen läßt, die er noch bis dahin in Ruhe gelassen hat. Nach den Ansichten von denen, die ihn kenn, nicht. Der Ludwig hat ja gesagt, er wäre so ungefähr ein schwarzes Arschloch, das hat er ihm am einen Abend gesagt, da hatte er (Himmler) nur gelacht. Das hat mir der Sohn erzählt. Aber Frau Ludwig erzählte, er wäre ein ganz charmanter, reizender Mann und es wäre nicht wahr, wenn man sagte, daß er so ein Mörderer wäre. Das Hauptquartier schwört auch auf Himmler. Ich halte ihn für voll. Ich habe mich über so viele Fragen mit ihm auseinandergesetzt, ich halte ihn für 100%ig. Ja, der Himmler muß doch diese ganzen Schweinereien wissen in seinem Ding. Weshalb er so rücksichtslos ist, er sagte, ungefähr it sein Standpunkt: also ob ein Richter einen Raubmörder nicht beurteilen dürfte, wenn man Himmler icht gestatete seine sache zu machen. Solo ungefähr sagte er. Wenn er etwas nur weiß, daß ein Mann anstandig mitmacht, dann wäre auch gleich ... und er sucht geradezu immerfort, in seine SS Leute reinzubekommen von uns, um diese anderen Schweinhunde zu -- Aber das ist eine völlig unkontrollierbare Macht, eine Macht, die niemanden über sich hat und die jedem an den Kragen kommen, und das ist das gefährliche daran.
