January 27, 1968 (Monday),
London

IN the post, a letter from Cassell's, very excited at the prospect of publishing Hitler book; could I let them see my contract with Kimber's? Also, the Forschungsamt papers, returned with suitable admiring noises from [Professor] Donald Cameron Watt. His Introduction follows.

Two pints of oil at Blue Star garage for the Rover. 1:30 p.m. left for Oxford.

Arrived as it struck three p.m. From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.: A very cordial conversation with Prof Hugh Trevor-Roper. (See attached note).

  1. BormannHe thinks Martin Bormann (right) tried to contact him in the early 1960s, because he was now short of cash, wanted to sell his memoirs, which T.R. would be able to authenticate, etc.
  2. He loaned me forty files of his interrogation papers, of exceptional value to my Hitler book. Including Prof Theo Morell and other interrogations.

Left at 6:30 p.m. after tea with him and lrs T.R. [Lady Alexandra] (who met Adolf Hitler under flattering circumstances long before the war). All evening reading the T.R. papers, fascinated. Until one a.m.
