Letter to the Director of the

League [No reply or acknowledgement was
received]
FOR THIRTY-FIVE years the
international Jewish organisations have been harassing
British historian David Irving. Again and again he has been
shown examples of the furtive "backgrounders" and
smear-sheets circulated by them in an attempt to blacken his
name. To: Mr Justin J.

| London, October 15, 1983 Sir, I
HAVE recently been shown a copy of your Memorandum issued to
"ADL Regional Offices" on July 6 [1983], entitled:
"Special Backgrounder:
David Irving".For the purposes of due
process under English law I hereby give you due warning that
this memorandum contains information that is both defamatory
and untrue. It is what we over here call libellous
garbage. Given the laxity of libel
laws in the United States, there is little I can do to
prevent it being circulated there. But be warned that I
shall proceed against every instance that I find of this
Memorandum being uttered in the jurisdiction of the English
courts or elsewhere in western Europe. I have already initiated
a number of successful actions against such smears, the most
recent example being Irving vs.: Christian Wagemann
in the Aachen and Cologne Law Courts which resulted in a
very costly judgement against a known Communist front
organisation which had uttered leaflets containing the same
smears as are contained in your Memorandum.Others, like the well
known Israeli author Ephraim Kishon, prefer to apologize in
writing to me for mistakenly giving currency to such
smears. Yours faithfully, David
Irving |
