David Irving’s Fight against Australian Suppression of Free Speech |
|
THE Australia/Israel Review published in its Volume 17, No 20, dated November 3-16, 1992, under the headline, “”The Odious Irving” a vicious attack by Mr Jeremy Jones, a leading member of the Australian Jewish community. David Irving sued for libel. The defendants made no attempt to justify their libels. This libellous article played an important part in persuading the Canberra government to deny Mr Irving’s application for a visa a few weeks later. (He had visited Australia twice before without problem).

* As is evident from Mr Irving’s letter to Mishcon de Reya, April 19, 1999, he had willingly loaned a tape of his speech to the Jewish Chronicle, London, shortly after the function; the newspaper evidently supplied an illicit transcript of Mr Irving’s (copyright) speech to the Board of Deputies of British Jews which in turn rushed copies to its agencies around the globe — and that is how this transcript surfaced in Australia. |
