THIS "NEUTRAL" expert witness and specialist about the
extreme right, Dr Hajo Funke, while being a
personable and engaging expert with whom Mr Irving enjoyed
discussions during the court pauses, was not neutral
either. He was an extreme left-wing agitator and
revolutionary, as became clear to Mr Irving only in the
closing days of the trial when certain materials were sent
to him from Germany. This was one of the disadvantages of
working single-handed, without personnel support. He attempted to introduce the new material
in his closing speech, but both Funke and the defence
lawyers protested and he was obliged to leave the passages
unspoken. |
